Christian Counseling in Denver

What is Christian Counseling?

For many of us, our faith is very important, and we want to incorporate it into our healing process as much as possible. Here at Equalize Counseling & Consulting, we offer Christian counseling (also called faith-based counseling) as an integration to any therapy approach such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, virtual therapy, and Prepare/Enrich. To add in spiritual integration, we utilize scripture, biblical principles, and prayer. Depending on your preferences, we can do these in session or utilize them as part of your “homework” to do out of session such as a devotional about anxiety. This approach can be adapted specifically for your needs and wants.

The bible discusses several aspects that point back to mental health and healthy living in general. These verses sometimes can be difficult to understand and even harder to put into practice. Take for instance Philippians 4:6-7:

6“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

For anyone just reading this verse, it may sound simple, but for anyone applying this verse, it is far from easy. In counseling, however, we can teach you the practical skills to “let go and let God” so that you can experience this peace that the Bible continuously mentions.

Additionally, we will integrate spiritual principles into your therapy. For example, Proverbs 12:25 says:

“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.”

In the psychology world, we have found this to be true. This biblical truth, along with others, has been backed by science, and we can utilize other approaches, such as CBT, to turn anxious thought patterns into healthier and more positive thought patterns. We also utilize devotionals as a way to seek truth on a subject that you may be struggling with or prayer to offer hope and positive coping.

Is Christian counseling a good fit for me?

When it comes to whether or not you would like to integrate Christian counseling into your therapy process, it is truly a personal decision. If you are a Christian that wants to deepen your relationship, grow your faith, and integrate your beliefs into therapy, it is likely a great fit for you. If you do not meet these criteria, it would be understandable for you to not want these practices integrated into your treatment.

For people who hold different religious views, please know that you are welcome to discuss any of your religious beliefs or views in session. Your therapist will not only be respectful of these, but also work with you to integrate them as you see fit. The reason we only advertise for Christian counseling is because our team is not as proficient at integrating other religious views into counseling at this time. Please ask us any questions or bring up any concerns you may have with this, so we can address them!
