You are feeling beat down and unsure of what to do from here. You feel like you are running into issue after issue, and it feels like many (if not all) of them are out of your control. You need someone to help you learn skills that actually work for you and your life. You also just want to feel good about yourself. Plus, some help finding a solution or a way to adjust would be invaluable. Sometimes you also find yourself in these situations with others, like your spouse or kids. You need help getting along and working as a team. You need help to overcome symptoms like anxiety, hopelessness, anger, depression, and grief to not just ride it out, but to flourish! If you struggle with any of these feelings or symptoms, I can help you!
My name is Maggie (Schnur) Poovey, and I became a therapist because helping others is my passion. I love how every new day allows me the ability to come alongside clients just like you to help them overcome their challenges and learn new things to help my clients. My approach to counseling centers around client strengths and cognitions. I like to focus on my clientās strengths and use those to empower them to find their own solutions. Additionally, I strive to help my clients explore their cognitions and how they affect feelings and behaviors. I love seeing my clients make the positive changes needed to flourish in all aspects of their lives. If you are ready to explore your strengths and find the solutions needed to enact positive growth, I would be happy to guide you on that journey.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (#A20028) in North Carolina. I have a Master's of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill. My experiences include helping individuals, couples, children, and families navigate challenges such as depression, anxiety, life stage transitions, grief, behavioral issues, substance use issues, and traumatic experiences. My approach to counseling is built on a strength-based perspective mixed with cognitive behavioral therapy. Strength-based therapy is a type of positive psychotherapy that focuses on a person's strengths, resourcefulness, and resilience. In addition to strength-based therapy, I also integrate a range of other evidence-based modalities and theories into my work to best serve each of my clients. These include Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Prepare-Enrich, Christian Counseling, and DBT.
